Water and Sewer

The Borough of Macungie provides municipal water and sewer service.  The Borough's public water system is served by two wells and is maintained by the Borough's licensed water operators and the maintenance staff, with guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.  The Borough Authority annually distributes a Consumer Confidence Report regarding the Borough's water testing results to all Borough residents.  Water and sewer rates are charged by the Borough on a quarterly basis. 

Water Rates:  Effective the first quarter January 2016 the water rates per EDU (equivalent dwelling unit) are as follows:

Example based on quarterly water usage of 10,000 gallons, the bill will be $37.07 (fixed) plus $42.50 (flow charge) totaling $79.57 for water.

Sewer Rates:  Effective the first quarter January 2017 the sewer rates (per billing unit) are as follows:

Example based on quarterly water usage of 10,000 gallons, the bill will be $28.33 (fixed), $35.40 (flow charge) plus $64.50 (Rehab fixed fee) totaling $128.23 for sewer.

Billing units located outside Borough limits will be charged the fixed fee plus flow charge based on usage of 200 gallons per day plus the Rehabilitation fixed fee.  A request may be made to install a water meter at the property owner's expense for a more accurate record of water usage.  To make the request, call Borough Hall at 610-966-2503.

Water Leak or Sewer Problem: Call (610) 966-2503 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.  For off hour emergencies, call (610) 437-5252.

Trash and Recycling CollectionRecycle

Trash canThe Borough provides curbside trash and recycling collection once per week for all residents and commercial establishments meeting the six (6) bags of trash per pickup limit.  Recycling amount is unlimited and must be in marked open containers.  DO NOT put recycling in plastic bags.  The more recycling placed for pickup the less trash you will have.  Place the trash and recycling containers out after 6 pm on Sunday evening for Monday AM pick up (No earlier than 6 pm).  

EFFECTIVE NOV 1, 2015, QUARTERLY REFUSE/RECYCLING RATE IS $61.87. 

Recycling is single stream collection.  Commingled items and paper items may be placed in the same recycling container.  Click for list of single stream items and other information.

Recycling Regulations

One large item may be placed each week for trash pickup.  That item can be one white good or bulk item as noted below:

White Goods - stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, hot water heaters, washers and dryers, microwaves and similar appliances can be placed out for the weekly collection.  All refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners must have the refrigerant removed and tagged prior to collection.

Bulk Items - furniture, bicycles and large waste materials may be placed at the curb for the weekly collection.

If your trash and/or recycling is not picked up by noon on Monday, please call the Borough office at 610-966-2503 to let us know.  We will notify the hauler and they should be back that day or by noon the next day to pick up the missed trash or recycling.

2017 Trash Pickup - One Day Delay Pickup

Pickup on May 29 (Memorial Day) - pickup will be Tuesday, May 30

Pickup on September 4 (Labor Day) - pickup will be Tuesday, September 5

Pickup on December 25 (Christmas) - pickup will be Tuesday, December 26

Pickup on January 1, 2018 (New Years Day) - pickup will be Tuesday, January 2

Yard Waste

Macungie Borough residents may take their yard waste to the Emmaus Borough Municipal Yard Waste Facility.  A pass must be obtained from Macungie Borough office before you can use the Emmaus yard waste facility. Click for location, times and regulations for the yard waste site.

Christmas Trees

Trees may be placed at the curb for pickup by the Borough on Mondays, January 9 and 16, 2017 to be taken to the Emmaus Composite Site.  The tree must be clean of tinsel, ornaments and lights and not in a bag. OR otherwise it can be placed for regular trash.

 

Leaf Collection

Leaves will be collected curbside the weeks of Nov 7, Nov 14, Nov 21 and Nov 28 and is contracted by EMI Landscaping.  Residents should rake their leaves to the curb for collection by 7:00 a.m. Mondays.   

    Do not mix grass clippings, garden waste, tree or shrub trimmings with the leaves or the pile will not be picked up.  These items will damage the leaf vacuum. 

      An area is designated at the Borough garage, 301 S Church Street for residents to place loose leaves only on any day or time (NO BAGS).

       Leaves may also be taken to the Emmaus Yard Waste site.  A permit must be obtained from the Borough office before you can use the Emmaus site.

Drop Box

Water, sewer, and refuse bill payments to the Borough office can be placed in the drop box on the Church Street door during or after business hours.  Permits may also be placed in this box.  The box is checked each morning for deposits.  Real Estate Tax bills, Per Capita and Local Service Taxes cannot be placed in the drop box.   Note: Utility bills must be in drop box by close of business on due date (4:30 pm).
